Youth participation key at the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities

14/10/2014

The Youth Forum is part of a youth delegation at the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities this week (14-16 October). The 27th Session Congress is taking place in Strasbourg at the Council of Europe headquarters.

This year, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities will focus on the theme of “Empowering Youth – Shared responsibility for cities and regions.” Over forty youth delegates have been selected from across Europe to participate in the Congress and will have the chance to take part in debates. Youth delegates have had the chance to define the topics for the debate, during a preparatory session at the beginning of the week, making the Congress a great opportunity for increased youth participation.

Màrcio Barcelos, a Youth Forum board member, will speak at the Congress and discuss the European Youth Capital, which will be celebrating its five-year anniversary this year. The Congress will also have a reception for the European Youth Capital on 15 October.

The Youth Forum hopes to create stronger cooperation between the Congress and the European Youth Capital and plans to work alongside the Congress to foster greater youth participation at local and regional levels.

The Congress and the Youth Forum are committed to working toward the same goals of garnering greater attention for youth participation, as well as empowering and giving a voice to youth across Europe.
