Youth organisations and Equality Bodies come together to address youth inequality & discrimination

12/07/2018

From 27th-28th June, members of the European Youth Forum and Equinet – the European Network of Equality Bodies met in Ljubljana, Slovenia for a seminar on “Tackling Age Discrimination against Young People”.

Representatives of nine youth organisations came together with representatives of over 20 National Equality Bodies to discuss inequality and discrimination, with a focus on youth, in an event hosted by the Slovenian Advocate of the Principle of Equality.

Participants explored youth inequality and discrimination in the areas of employment, social protection, participation as well as goods and services.

Furthermore, participants discussed how discrimination on the grounds of age intersects with other forms of discrimination including based on gender, race, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Finally, participants proposed ways for Equality Bodies and Youth Organisations to work together more closely in order to address youth inequality & discrimination, particularly in relation to taking forward legal cases, influencing policy-making, as well as communication with youth and the wider public.

Equinet and the European Youth Forum reiterated their commitment to a continuing, close cooperation on their shared interests and common goals.
