Youth Forum members debate post-2015 development agenda

Last week (22nd-23rd January) the European Youth Forum brought together seven of its members at its new offices in Brussels for a taskforce meeting on the post-2015 sustainable development agenda, where members established what progress has been made so far, how much the Post-2015 process can be influenced and how the Youth Forum can do this.

The taskforce meeting also aimed to contribute to the Youth Forum’s work and its positions for intergovernmental negotiations. The taskforce members discussed how they would develop targeted advocacy activities towards national governments, European institutions and other UN actors. One of the key tools for this will be an advocacy toolkit for use at national level and an awareness raising campaign will also be developed.

One avenue for influencing the Post-2015 process which is open to individuals (30 years old and younger) and youth organisations is to join the UN’s Major Group for Children and Youth, of which the Youth Forum is Organising Partner. This is a space where organisations and young people themselves can get involved and find out about sustainable development at the UN.

The Youth Forum is looking forward to continuing to work with this taskforce to make sure that the voice of young people is given the prominence that it deserves in the post-2015 sustainable development agenda. It plans, furthermore, to include more of its members across Europe in its work on this topic.
