Maribor has published its final report on the impact of its year as European Youth Capital (EYC). The Slovenian city was awarded the title of European Youth Capital 2013 back in 2010. The European Youth Forum is pleased to see the positive outcomes of the initiative on Maribor’s youth.

As European Youth Capital 2013, the city of Maribor helped create conditions for the development of an environment that encourages and helps young people to develop and achieve their potential, and promotes the participation of young people in decision-making processes.

Maribor’s Youth Capital programme aimed to find solutions to the current problems young people face: increasing unemployment and barriers to employability of young people, housing problems, as well as issues linked to youth mobility, greater recognition of non-formal education and the strengthening of the structured dialogue on youth.

Importance was placed on volunteers in implementing the EYC programme. Volunteering was promoted as an alternative opportunity to gain work experience in these difficult economic times.

Maribor’s EYC 2013 programme also had a strong European dimension, and will have various long-terms effects, with several projects funded by the Youth in Action programme. About 1,100 young people actively participated in the preparation and implementation of the EYC Maribor 2013 programme.

The European Youth Forum would like to thank Maribor for publishing its final report and congratulate them on the impact of the programme. The final report is available here.
