Which 3 cities are still in the running? #EYC2023

The European Youth Forum is very excited to present the 3 shortlisted cities that will continue in the running to become the European Youth Capital 2023 (EYC 2023)!

The cities are (in alphabetical order):

Baia Mare (Romania)

Kazan (Russia)

Lublin (Poland)

The European Youth Forum is excited to see an increasing number of cities ready to invest in young people and work hand in hand with both youth organisations and young citizens in their bid for the European Youth Capital title.

The EYC 2023 application process attracted cities from across Europe with many interesting ideas on how to foster youth participation, while also highlighting different local and regional issues that young people face..

The shortlisted cities for EYC 2023 were selected by an independent jury that comprises of representatives of the following institutions and organisations:

European Parliament

Committee of the Regions

Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe

Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development

EU-CoE youth partnership

European Economic & Social Committee

Council of European Municipalities & Regions

Advisory Council of Youth of the Council of Europe

OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights

Open Society Initiative for Europe

EURACTIV

European Movement International

Eurodesk

European Volunteer Centre

European Youth Forum

While not shortlisted this time, we also acknowledge the impressive submissions of:

Izmir (Turkey)

Poznan (Poland)

Lviv (Ukraine)

The European Youth Forum will send feedback to all cities that applied for the first round and will also continue to work with those cities that were not shortlisted but wish to re-apply for the title in the future.

Next steps

In the next round of the competition, the shortlisted cities have until 24 May 2020 to submit a more detailed application outlining an extensive programme of youth-related cultural, social and political events and activities.

The shortlisted cities will again receive recommendations on their detailed applications from the independent jury and a focus group, and will submit their final, updated applications on 20 September 2020.

Then the shortlisted cities will have a last chance to convince the EYC 2023 Selection Jury why they should be awarded the title at the Jury meeting taking place prior the official Award Ceremony in Klaipeda, European Youth Capital 2021, 18 November 2020 where the winner is announced.
