Today, the UNI Europa Youth signed the European Quality Charter on Internships and Apprenticeships at a seminar the organisation held in Athens, Greece.

UNI Europa Youth, a branch of UNI Global Union, is a group of young members from the trade union movement. After a workshop on internships and apprenticeships, the president of UNI Europa Youth, Lee Fishwick, signed the Charter, demonstrating the commitment UNI Europa Youth has to the key principles outlined in the Charter.

The Charter, created by the European Youth Forum in collaboration with youth organisations, Parliamentarians and trade unions, establishes the basic framework internships and apprenticeships need in order to be valuable learning experiences for the young people who participate in them. The articles outlined in the Charter express the need for employers to provide internship experiences of value to young people in which they gain necessary skills and are compensated for the work they do.

Last week, the Brussels Interns NGO (BINGO), an organisation of young professionals in Brussels, signed the charter. BINGO and UNI Europa join the dozens of members of the European Parliament and organisations across Europe who have already signed the charter.

The European Youth Forum welcomes both UNI Europa and BINGO, and looks forward to more organisations and companies following suit and pledging their commitment to young people and quality internships and apprenticeships.
