The European Youth Forum presents its key messages to the Member States’ representatives on youth policy

On the 22nd of January, at the invitation of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU, the European Youth Forum presented its key messages to the Member States’ representatives on youth policy at the Youth Working Party.

It is essential for a fully functioning democracy in the European Union that young people are involved in the upcoming European Parliament elections. At today’s meeting, the European Youth Forum presented its main initiatives towards this objective, the League of Young Voters campaign - to stimulate young people’s informed participation - and the Love Youth Future campaign - targeting MEP candidates and encouraging them to sign pledges corresponding to young people’s expectations.

The European Youth Forum also presented its expectations in relation to the currently discussed EU Work Plan for Youth Policy. It argued that youth issues should be prioritised in all relevant EU policies without losing its specific highlight on participation. With the end of the third cycle of structured dialogue between young people and policy makers, the Forum calls upon the Member States to take the policy recommendations fully on board in a Council Resolution and take concrete actions to implement them.

We are looking forward to cooperating with the Greek Presidency and the Member States on all policies affecting young people.

NB: The Youth Working party is the Council formation belonging to the Education, Youth, Culture and Sports (EYCS) Council where national authorities’ experts on youth policy from all EU Member States discuss EU youth policy in the framework of the European cooperation in the youth field (2010-2018).
