Secretary Generals from Youth Forum member organisations meet in Brussels

07/07/2015

Last week, 14 Secretary Generals from Youth Forum member organisations met in Brussels for Secretary Generals Day. This annual networking event gives the Secretary Generals an opportunity to get to know each other better, exchange ideas and share best practices.

This year, Secretary Generals Day focused on three different topics: funding opportunities for youth organisations, global youth work and capacity building (in the framework of the Youth Forum Growing Stronger Strategy).

Thursday began with an Expert Session on Funding led by Marta Pont, the Services and Training Manager at the European Citizen Action Service, which was followed by participants sharing their best practices and concerns regarding funding. Next, there was a discussion on being a Secretary General of a youth NGO, focusing on effective leadership and ongoing issues in youth organisations. The meeting continued on Friday with peer-to-peer sessions on global youth work and capacity building.

The Youth Forum was pleased to host this fruitful meeting, which resulted in creating a Secretary Generals’ Network, and to hear about the great work being carried out by our members and to facilitate learning between them. The Secretary Generals will continue to meet on a regular basis to discuss financial, administrative, human resources and other relevant topics.
