Reaction to the French law on Internships Framework

• Please find below the declaration by the European Youth Forum President , Peter Matjašič, following the vote of the Khirouni law on the framework for internships at the National Assembly:

"The European Youth Forum takes good note of the vote on the Khirouni law on internships framework by the National Assembly. This law is going in the right direction, bringing new guarantees to interns with a limitation of the internships' length, restaurants vouchers and a partial reimbursement of travel costs.

However, we regret the lack of ambition of this legal text which should have been the opportunity to effectively strengthen internships framework. The current minimum remuneration, €436 per month, does not allow young interns to access autonomy. It also prevents young people to do an internship and increases their dependence on their parents.

The Forum will closely follow the implementation of the decree as announced by the Minister of Higher Education concerning the establishment of a ceiling for the number of interns according to the size of companies. We also hope that an ambitious recommendation on a Framework for Quality Internships, conformingly with our "European Charter for Quality Internships and Apprenticeships" will be adopted by the Member States at the Council of the European Union on the occasion of the next Council Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumers Affairs (EPSCO) on March 10th-11th.'
