Race for EYC 2020 title continues!
Last weekend, on 12-13th August, representatives of former, current and future European Youth Capitals gathered together to discuss and assess applications for the European Youth Capital (EYC) 2020 title. The focus group was hosted by Cluj-Napoca in Romania, the winner of EYC2015.
During the focus group meeting, members aimed to provide detailed feedback for the 2020 candidate cities, following on from the second round of applications submitted in June.
All shortlisted candidate cities will now receive tailored recommendations for improvement of their applications compiled from the high level jury, focus group and external consultant, which will help them in the third and final round of the competition.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony during the European Youth Forum’s Council of Members in November. The ceremony will be hosted by Cascais (EYC2018) municipality and will bring together politicians, mayors and other representatives of current, former and upcoming EYCs, YFJ member organisations and other key stakeholders to welcome the EYC for 2020 to the family.
The five finalist cities for 2020 are:
Amiens (France)
Chișinău (Moldova)
Klaipėda (Lithuania)
Timisoara (Romania)
Villach (Austria)
The ‘European Youth Capital’ is a title awarded to a European city for the period of one year, during which it is given the chance to showcase, through a multi-faceted programme, its youth-related cultural, social, political and economic life and development.
