From the 28th to 29th of November, the National Youth Development Agency of the Republic of South Africa hosted the Pan African Youth Union Congress 2014, which focussed on the theme “Youth moving Africa forward”.

The Pan African Youth Union seeks to empower African young people. An operating platform for interaction among young people, policy-makers and social partners on youth development across the continent were some of their priorities for this Congress.

During the congress, in Johannesburg, representatives identified and shared good practice on youth employment, health and wellbeing, civic participation, youth policy and programmes implemented at the continental level. The 2014 congress was also focused on strengthening an action road map on the accelerated implementation of African Youth Charter (AYC), which came into force in 2009.

The President of South Africa, H.E. Jacob Zuma attended the congress and gave his support to the Pan African Youth Union: "African youth need to speak in unison on how to achieve youth development goals."

The Youth Forum was present at this meeting and addressed the congress, especially in the framework of their positive and now longstanding Africa Europe co-operation. The Youth Forum would like to congratulate Francine Mymbuya (Democratic Republic of Congo) first female President of the Pan African Youth Union who was elected at the Congress and we are delighted to continue to work to strengthen the collaboration between African and European youth.
