New Youth Forum project to support refugee youth protection and integration

01/08/2017

The European Youth Forum is very pleased to announce that it has been selected for a partnership with UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency, to support refugee youth protection and integration efforts in Europe through a European Youth Initiative Fund (EYIF).

While Europe continues to receive and host migrant and refugee youth and adolescents, the unique capacities and needs of this demographic are often overlooked, with access to rights significantly hampered. Young refugees frequently fall between the gaps of initiatives or programmes targeting child and adult refugees in situations of forced displacement, for example.

The project will build on the global Youth Initiative Fund piloted by UNHCR in 2013, as well as the global refugee youth consultations carried out in 2015-16. The EYIF will mobilise and empower refugee youth, promote protection and integration, as well as the development of life skills that strengthen resilience and foster positive relationships within communities.

The Youth Forum looks forward to supporting youth organisations and young refugees through this exciting new project. Further information about the EYIF and the opportunities it presents for refugee youth and their communities will be announced in the autumn.
