Yesterday (9th February) the European Commission launched the second phase of the preparatory action for a “new narrative” for Europe.

The initiative, which particularly aims to involve and inspire young people, plans to help shape the way Europe, its values and ideals are expressed. According to the European Commission the New Narrative will also aim to bring Europe closer to its citizens, reviving a "European" spirit based on Europe's core values of dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, and respect for human rights.

The launch event saw many European Youth Forum members take to the floor in a debate on European values, which followed a speech by Commissioner Tibor Navracsics in which he stated the Commission’s intention to have young people at the heart of the project. The European Youth Forum attended the launch event and will in 2016, along with its members, be hosting around 20 youth events across Europe to debate these key issues at the national level.

For more information on the New Narrative see the European Commission’s website.
