New groundbreaking study, launched at LLL Week

Yesterday, the European Youth Forum, as part of the 6th Edition of the LLL Week (Life Long Learning Week), launched its new publication “Inspiring! Youth Organisations' Contribution to Citizenship Education” at an event at the European Parliament.

The in-depth publication includes concrete examples from 24 member organisations and aims to show the potential of non-formal education and, in particular, youth organisations, as quality providers of citizenship education in their daily work. It also highlights the need for more interaction between the formal and non-formal education sectors on citizenship education and illustrates the benefits of such partnerships for the personal development and engagement of young people in their local communities.

This new publication is the result of a consultation process that began in early 2016 in the context of the Paris Declaration of the Ministers of Education on Promoting Citizenship and the common values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination through education. This is just the first step by the Youth Forum on this topic and it will continue with further actions regarding citizenship education in the future.

LLL Week (10th - 13th October, in Brussels) was a week packed with events, debates, receptions and launches on the key challenges impacting educational policies and movements, bringing together learners and educators, field workers and policy-makers, thinkers and political representatives and giving them the opportunity to discuss today’s greatest educational challenges.

On Monday, LLLWeek16 and the European Youth Forum held a debate in the European Parliament on reforming Erasmus+, budgetary constraints, civil society needs and political will. Along with other speakers, David Garrahy, the European Youth Forum’s Head of Policy and Advocacy, shared ideas on improving the Erasmus+ programme.

On Tuesday, the LLPlatform, jointly with the Youth Forum, held a reception where the winners of the LLLAwards2016 were announced.

The European Youth Forum interviewed four key people and asked David Lopez (President of the LLL Platform), Márcio Barcelos (Board Member of the European Youth Forum), Emilian Pavel (MEP) and Wout Van Caimere (Coordinator of the European Parliament Youth Intergroup) on the week and their main priorities what it comes to education.
