150 leaders of youth organisations have assembled at the European Youth Convention (EYC) at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, which takes place from 9th-12th March. The Convention aims to be a starting point for a more democratic and stronger Europe by creating a new European Constitution.

"The great response to the European Youth Convention shows that leaders of youth organisations from all countries deeply worry about their common future", said Jérôme Quéré, President of JEF France. "The EU has not been empowered to deal with the many crisis of the past years and thus, lost much public trust. At the EYC, the organised youth will prove that a better Europe is possible and a real constitution key to fixing the EU."

The EYC not only strives to produce a new political foundation for the continent but also takes a fresh approach to developing a constitution. Mr Quéré explains: "The past years of EU politics have been based on the least common denominator, causing nationalism to spread. In contrast, the European Youth Convention aims for a maximum commitment by and consensus among its members.”

European Youth Forum vice president, Carina Autengruber, welcomed participants to the Convention today, reflecting that when it comes to the future of the European Union, young people are inevitable stakeholders. Young people are the first pro-European born generation and want a Europe that unleashes our potential creating a promising future and safeguarding our fundamental rights.

The Youth Forum thanks the French section of the Young European Federalists (JEF), member organisation of the European Youth Forum that hosted the EYC.
