European Youth Forum further embraces a rights-based approach to its work

Last week, the European Youth Forum further consolidated its position in moving towards a rights-based approach to its work by a second training session for its Secretariat with the International NGO Training and Research Centre (INTRAC).

The rights-based approach to youth policy that the European Youth Forum is embracing will integrate the norms, standards and principles of the international human rights system into the development, implementation and evaluation of youth policy. This will be achieved by:

• Young people not being negatively discriminated on the grounds of age or any other factor;
• promoting a youth policy that encourages the participation and autonomy of young people in a cross-sectorial manner and ensures that youth-specific concerns are taken into account in all sectorial policies;
• promoting the recognition, access and monitoring of youth rights by continuing to strive for the adoption of legal tools targeted to the specific needs of young people.

The follow-up training session enabled members of the Youth Forum’s Secretariat to examine and discuss in detail how they will embed all their work in a rights-based approach. During the course of this year the European Youth Forum will be providing similar rights-based approach training for its member organisations.
