20/04/2016

The European Youth Forum has, during its Council of Members which took place this weekend in Brussels, adopted a resolution which identifies a series of quality standards for youth policy, so that its membership now have a common understanding of what quality youth policy should look like.

The standards include having a rights-based and evidence-based youth policy, that it should be participatory, strategic and multi-level. Sufficient resources should be dedicated for it, along with political commitment and accountability. Lastly there should be a cross-sectoral approach to youth policy

The eight standards act as a framework against which youth policy (the policies which support young people in achieving their full potential) can be assessed. These include policies at local, regional, national and European levels.

These standards will be accompanied by a toolkit guiding those assessing youth polices with indicators and criteria assessment.. Member Organisations of YFJ to assess the quality of youth policy in their context and to call for improvement based on an existing reference.

The resolution, which was drafted by the Youth Forum’s expert group on youth policy, identifies eight core standards on which youth policy should be based.
