Brief history

EGTYF (European Good Templars Youth Federation)changed its name into ACTIVE- Sobriety, Friendship and Peace during their Congress in Switzerland in 2006. ACTIVE - Sobriety, Friendship and Peace is a non-governmental organisation gathering European youth temperance organisations.

Objectives

Active - sobriety, friendship and peace is a European youth organization gathering 25 000 young people who have decided to live sober. The main aim of Active is peace and tolerance in the world. We consider alcohol consumption an obstacle for development of individuals and society. There is too much harm caused by alcohol. We think we can contribute to improvement of living quality of individuals in different societies by abstaining from drinking.

Active with its 500+ youth groups and 25 000+ members offer a safe and alcohol free environment where children of addicts can learn to be children/youth again, experience friendship and trust. By this Active breaks the chain to reproduce the alcohol problem into the next generation.

We are promoting alcohol free life style and offering an alternative to those who do not accept alcohol as a natural part of our cultures.

Activities

Active finds that youth organisations are essential in diminishing negative peer pressure and prevent alcohol and drug abuse. ACTIVE builds on international meetings, study sessions and workshops- educating its members on topics such as democracy, human rights and alcohol. Mutual understanding creates the base of equality and peace. ACTIVE provides the space for self-realisation, for making new contacts, for exchange projects, education and much more and is a support for each national organisation in reaching the main common goal - peace and human dignity.
The main activities of ACTIVE are trainings, intercultural learning and social activities. Active works also politically to encourage alcohol and drug free environment.

Structure

- Board (9 members: president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, and 5 consultative members) - Congress (highest authority, meets every second year) - NORDGU (co-ordinating subcouncil in the Nordic countries)
